LouVino Fishers, Indiana – Jim Gaffigan White Wine Flight Review

The city of Fishers, Indiana is going through a renaissance period, transforming from a quiet suburban town, to a destination for food, arts, shopping, and entertainment. In 2016, LouVino Restaurant and Wine Bar became part of the thriving restaurant scene in the Fishers’ Nickel Plate District.  The balance between safe family neighborhoods with trendy attractions along with new commercial business development helped Fishers rank as the #1 Place to Live in the US by Money Magazine in 2017.           

Charcuterie Board & Bacon Wrapped Dates

LouVino offers a full menu of small food plates for sharing, including my favorite, bacon wrapped dates.  In addition, they have a complete menu of bourbons, craft beer, and cocktails.  And let’s not forget the selection of more than 60 wines by the glass.  LouVino is also a popular weekend brunch destination with $2.00 mimosa specials.  I also enjoy happy hour specials after work and the chief’s tasting menu of specially selected dishes paired with wine.  For those who love a bargain, bottles of wine valued at $100 or less are half off on Sundays; you can’t beat that on Sunday Funday!

Recently I made the difficult decision to challenge myself to tasting all 13 wine flights offered.  The flights are made up of three, two ounce pours, and the names are Indiana- and Kentucky-themed.  Examples of the themed flights are the Kurt Vonnegut Chardonnay flight, and the John Mellencamp French red wine flight.  Because it was a sizzling summer night sitting out on their patio, I opted to taste the Jim Gaffigan Flight, which is described as, “Fun, unique & interesting whites to applaud your palate”.  For those who may not know, Jim Gaffigan is a comedian/actor raised in Chesterton, Indiana.  I remember him best for his part in The Ellen Show in the early 2000’s.

The theme of this flight is acidity.  Crisp white wines, with flavors of lemon, lime, peach, and green apples.

2016 Laurenz ‘Singing’ Grüner Veltliner, Kampstal, Austria

Dry, green apple and lemon with a clean, almost flat finish. 

2015 Foucher-Lebrun Vouvray, Loire Valley, France (favorite of the flight)

Chenin Blanc varietal with a slight bit of sweetness balanced well with the acidity of lemon and peach flavors.

2016 Schloss Vollrads Dry Riesling, Rheingau, Germany

Dry, with lots of lemon and acidity.  A touch of minerality.
